Unofficial ADHD and ADD Checklist

People that come to the Thriving Wellness Center often ask us, “How do I know if I have ADHD?”

Our ADHD therapists who work primary with people with ADHD and ADD complied this comprehensive list of ADHD symptoms and signs.

While reading this list, It is important to keep in mind that not all people with ADHD exhibit the same signs of ADHD or experience these signs to the same degree. This information is a list of the common signs and characteristics of ADHD. It is unlikely that you will display all of these characteristics, and it’s important to remember, only a qualified professional perform an evaluation for ADHD and diagnose ADHD.

1. Hypersensitivity to noise, touch, smell. 

2. Poor sense of time, often running late.

3. Feelings of low self-worth. 

4. Hypersensitivity to criticism. 

5. Being emotionally charged and easily upset. 

6. Starting projects but seeming unable to finish them. 

7. Taking on too much. 

8. Difficulty remembering names and dates.

9. Saying things without thinking, often hurting others' feelings. 

10. Appearing self-absorbed. 

11. Seeming to not want to hear what others are saying. 

12. Engaging in addictive or unhealthy behaviors. 

13. Problems with word retrieval.

14. Poor handwriting or fine motor skills.

15. Difficulty with boring, repetitive tasks. 

16. Spending time ruminating. 

17. Difficulty making decisions. 

18. Clumsiness and poor coordination.

19. Tiring easily, or conversely, difficulty sitting still.

20. Difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep or difficulty waking up the next morning.
